The Story

The Chosen Ones is a new musical about a group of young LGBTQ+ people in a conversion therapy camp. This special preview is of the first seven songs from the musical, as performed by singers from the upcoming Concept Cast album. This production is part of the Mix-MATCH festival at the MATCH Houston and is presented as part of our John Steven Kellett Memorial Series of works relating to LGBTQ+ equity. Nicole Campos (Alex)

Nicole Campos (she/her) is a sophomore at Sam Houston State University where she is currently majoring in Musical Theatre. She could most recently be seen performing as Ensemble/Amalia Understudy in She Loves Me. She is thrilled to be a part of The Chosen Ones cast!

Ashley Duplechien (Iris)

Ashely Duplechien (she/her), mezzo-soprano, is a Louisiana native currently residing in Houston. She was trained first at Louisiana State University by Dr. Loraine Sims then at the Royal Academy of Music in London by world-renowned mezzo-soprano Anne Howells and prominent conductor and coach Iain Ledingham. Ashley’s agile voice has allowed her the privilege to explore and perform a wide variety of orchestral repertoire as a soloist across western Europe as well as here in the United States, including Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder, Bach’s St. John Passion, Handel’s Messiah and Purcell’s Welcome to all the Pleasures. Operatic repertoire includes title role in Rossini’s La Cenerentola, Le Feu in Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges, Diane in Offenbach’s Orphée aux enfers, and both Fiordiligi and Dorabella in Mozart’s Così fan tutteAshley has been a member of the Houston Grand Opera chorus since 2014 and is also part of the leadership team with the newly-formed Hopera – an immersive classical music experience focused on accessibility and affordability. In addition to her career in music, Ashley has worked in the energy and fuels industry since 2015, currently as the Director of Business Development for n renewable fuels provider. Her commercial projects span North America and provide pathways for emissions reductions in the transportation sector resulting in cleaner air.

Isaac A. Gonzalez (Daniel)

Isaac A. Gonzalez (he/him) is currently a sophomore at Sam Houston State University majoring in Musical Theatre, where he is most known for his appearances as a Swing in American Idiot, Birdseller in Sweeney Todd, and Swing in She Loves Me. He is very excited to be a part of The Chosen Ones cast!

Emma Hayden (Billie)

Emma Hayden is thrilled to perform the role of Billie in The Chosen Ones. Emma, most recently featured as Mabel in Aaron Alon Production’s Mad! The Musical concept cast album, is currently finishing her music education degree at the University of Houston. Additional performance credits include: Merry Widow (Lolo), Ainadamar (Nina), Grease (Sandy Dumbrowski), You Can’t Take it with you (Alice Sycamore), and Great American Trailer Park (Donna “Pickles”). Emma would like to thank her family, friends, and mentors for their continuous support and encouragement.

Zachary Sharp (Jo)

Zachary Sharp  is a Houston-based bass-baritone. He is pursuing a bachelor of music in vocal performance at the University of Houston Moores School of Music, where he is studying with Timothy Jones. Favorite credits include Next to Normal (Henry) and Rocky Horror Show (Brad) at the Jet Pac in Webster, TX. Zachary is thrilled to be a part of this production. This is his first time working with Aaron, and he is having a blast.

Writer & Director

Aaron ALon (writer/composer & director)

Aaron Alon (he/him) is an award-winning composer, writer, director, filmmaker, and teacher. His classical music has been played in concert venues around the world, awarded multiple international awards, and released on several CDs. Since earning his doctorate in composition from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, he has shifted his focus to plays, musicals, films, and short-form YouTube videos. His plays and musicals have been performed around the US and in the UK, and his 2017 feature film musical Bully has been screened in and awarded prizes from film festivals around the world. Aaron was one of six finalists for the 2022 Fred Ebb Awards for musical theatre writers and his musical The Great White Way: the Bert Williams Musical was one of three international finalists for the 2023 Stanley Drama Award. Current projects include recordings of the musical Mad! (cowritten with Russell Sarre) and The Chosen Ones, as well as new content for his YouTube channel, which has had over 9 million views.  He is a founding member and president of the board of directors of Thunderclap productions.
